From idea to validated solution in a maximum of 4 days
With design sprints, complex tasks can be transformed into valid solutions in the shortest possible time together with the stakeholders. Endless discussion cycles and months of effort are compressed into just a few days.
Why design sprints?
A design sprint is a focused process lasting a maximum of five days to quickly gain insights into user behaviour, develop ideas and validate them. Design sprints are efficient: the design and solution-finding phase is reduced by up to 75 %. In addition, the error rate is reduced by up to 50% with this approach.
This is what characterises design sprints:
What are design sprints?
Design sprints were developed at Google (by Jake Knapp) and have led companies such as Uber, Slack and many more to global success. It is a framework that combines the best approaches from Design Thinking. Design sprints are now carried out worldwide with great success.
What are the advantages of a design sprint?
The biggest advantage is obvious: after 5 days, you have a solution that has already been tested with customers. This is efficient, fast and much cheaper than the old-school version. There are also a number of positive side effects: because a team deals so intensively with a problem and finds a solution together, the energy and motivation for implementation is many times higher than in normal projects. Decisions are made more quickly, the solution is largely developed without a computer or smartphone (detox!), so the participants can concentrate fully on this one problem. This completely new experience welds a team together.
Why does this approach work?
In a design sprint, users, clients and tech professionals are equally involved right from the start. First, the initial situation is analysed and all participants contribute to a clear understanding. Solutions are developed together but individually. Decisions are also made quickly.
How does a design sprint work?
You as the client are intensively involved for the first 2-3 days (depending on the duration of the sprint). A team is defined together to carry out the sprint. It is important that a decision-maker is on board, but this person can only come to the decision meetings on a dedicated basis.
At the beginning, the focus is on identifying the core problem; it is important that all information is shared and that the participants have the same understanding. User journeys are recorded, problems are discussed, reassessed and evaluated. The team then knows exactly where to start.
Now everyone knows what the problem is and what needs to be solved. Ideas are generated and sketched. Everyone works in the same room, but the ideas are developed individually. After a creative break to gain some distance and space from their own input, the suggestions are evaluated and a decision is made.
After deciding in favour of one (or possibly more than one) idea, the UX specialists withdraw and develop a prototype. Feedback can of course be given on this again before the test with users takes place to validate the idea.
