Reto Vogt discusses with Christian Fehrlin the pros and cons of automatic facial recognition. Football fan Reto has a different opinion than his boss.
Automatic facial recognition – especially in public spaces – is a thorn in the side for many people. Projects that propose the use of this technology frequently come under criticism. This was recently the case with the Federal Police (Fedpol) or the Federal Railways. Accordingly, a majority of Swiss politicians are against automatic facial recognition in public spaces.
Christian Fehrlin stands on the other side. He is the owner and CEO of the Winterthur software company Deep Impact and the owner of the Winsider publishing house. With his subsidiary Ava-X, he has brought to market a software for automatic facial recognition. In our podcast, he talks about real-world applications and what the technology is capable of.
